On this page you will find the course syllabus and outline. I chose to create a more formal course syllabus for the teacher professional development program in case teachers needed to present something formal to their administrator, district, or union in order to participate in the program.
As with the other Google Docs I’ve created, I’ll also provide links so that participants can make their own copies. The design of this program is designed to be a Community of Practice (Wenger, 1998). It’s intended to be formed by a group of people who have a shared interest, such as developing their digital literacy skills, and to be sustained over a period of time (like a school year). The design of the program allows for it to be conducted face-to-face or in an online community.
In addition to the overall design, I have include a list of suggested session topics to be covered throughout the year. These are recommendations and can be substituted based on the interest and needs of the Community of Practice. The session topics were chosen based on their applicability to a variety of subjects and grade levels in order to ensure they were relevant for a variety of grade levels.
Where possible, I selected platforms that are globally accessible and free (at least in Canada). In many cases, I suggested multiple platforms in the hopes that one of the platforms would aligns with the needs of your Community of Practice.
